CONCERT

MOH and EMILY are sitting opposite each other. Moh is on his laptop while Emily is sitting with her textbook in front of her.

Moh:
We’re on chapter 8B, you shouldn’t be reading chapter five.

Emily:
(cupping her ear): What?

Moh:
I said that we’re on— oh, don’t worry about it. What’s wrong with your hearing?

Emily:
What?

Moh:
What’s wrong with your hearing?

Emily:
Oh man, I was at a concert last night.

Moh:
A concert. You? But you hate staying up late.

Emily:
I know, it was wild!

Moh (under his breath):
Was it a Wiggles concert?

Emily:
No it was not a Wiggles concert.

Moh:
So you heard that!

Emily:
It was actually a band that’s soooo underground. You’ve probably never heard of them.

Moh:
Yep, I’m sure I haven’t.

Emily:
I mean, my taste in music is pretty refined, so, like, it’s pretty rustic, kind of laid-back—

Moh:
So is it rustic or is it refined? Look, I don’t really care what you do outside of school, I’m sorry for even initiating this conversation.

Emily (pouting):
You’re no fun.

Moh:
Absolutely none whatsoever.

Emily:
Ac/dc, ever heard of them?

Moh:
What?

Emily:
That’s who I saw yesterday. Live. They’re really good.

Moh:
They’re, uh, pretty much the opposite of underground. You know that right? That you didn’t just ‘discover’ Ac/dc?

Emily:
Oh, but I did.

Moh:
Oh, no.

Emily:
It was an intimate venue, around fifty-thousand people—

Moh:
That doesn’t sound intimate at all—

Emily:
But the boys were able to rock their hearts out and make it feel like a huge stadium—

Moh:
Pretty sure you were actually in a massive stadium, but—

Emily:
What?

Moh:
Do you just have selective hearing or some—

Emily:
What?

Moh:
Okay, I wasn’t even done speaking that time—

Emily:
What?

Moh:
Sure. I’m just gonna move now.

Moh gets his things. There is a shot of the chair, empty. Emily pauses.

Emily:
What?
